The Song Cha means 宋點茶
Nearly a thousand years ago, tea drinkers in the Song dynasty ground their tea to a fine powder and whisked it with hot water into a bright, frothy bowl. The practice was called diǎn chá — whisked tea.
It was more than a drink. Preparing a bowl of whisked tea was a way to welcome a guest, to honor someone, to offer a small moment of care. Our name holds both meanings at once: the tea of the Song era, and the quiet act of serving tea to someone you value.
Not instead of — but alongside
Whisked, powdered tea found its most famous expression in Japan, and it's loved around the world for good reason. We're not here to replace that.
We're here to offer another origin to explore — a Chinese lineage of powdered and whisked tea that most people outside China have never had the chance to taste. If you already love matcha, think of this as a new direction to wander in.
Where our matcha begins
Our matcha comes from the high mountains of Guizhou in southwest China — cool air, a clean mountain environment, and elevation that lets the leaves grow slowly and full of character.
It's a region with deep tea roots and some of the largest, fast-growing matcha fields in the country. Like everything we make, it's single-origin — grown in one place, not blended from many — so each cup tastes of where it actually came from.
